for most things

Acronyms used throughout this and other TA:M texts:
	TA:M = TA Mutation
	TC   = Total Conversion

Please folow the instructions EXACTLY, otherwise TA:M will get
confused and may even mangle your TA directory (though I don't
think it should, it'll just spit out a bunch of error messages)

1)	Make absolutely certain you have the TA v3.1 (non-Boneyards)
	installed. If you don't you'll need to either upgrade or
	get somebody to send you the unmodified v3.1 .exe

2)	Disable all TA modifiers you may have installed, this
	includes any Total Conversions, 3rd party AIs, and mods such
	as Uberhack or Bugfix. THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP, MAKE
	SURE YOU GET RID OF *EVERYTHING*. Units and maps can stay,
	but nothing else.

3)	Put TA Mutation.exe in your TA directory and run it. You
	shouldn't get any errors, but if you do just try to figure
	out what's wrong (the errors should be pretty self explanatory),
	and fix it manually. Then launch TA:M again.
	*NOTE* if you have compiled your totala1.hpi, ccdata.ccx,
	and rev31.gp3 files into a single monolithic totala1.hpi file
	then you will get errors refering to this, and instructions
	on how to prevent them from being displayed in the future.

4)	If TA:M reported any errors go back to (1) and repeat until
	you can get it to start with no errors. Don't play with the
	tabs until you've got everything working right. Most people
	probably won't have any problems.

5)	Shut down TA:M and make sure it's done what it's supposed to,
	this really isn't neccesary, but it will give you a feel for
	the new layout of your TA directory, and on the off chance
	that something went wrong you can catch any problems before
	they become serious. The things you should notice are:
		-> ccdata.ccx has been renamed to ccdata.hpi
		-> rev31.gp3 has been renamed to rev31.ufo
		-> a folder named TA-Mutation has been created
		-> a folder named UfoManager has been created within the
			TA-Mutation foder

6)	Read through the TAM formats.txt file and begin making all
	your TA mods TAM compatible, one at a time. Most mods should
	probably be classified as either Total Conversions or AIs,
	though you'll need to decide for yourself whether some mods
	might better be classified as Mutators (Mutators are basically
	mini TCs, the primary difference is that multiple Mutators can
	be enabled at once, and compatibility checking is only performed
	between TCs and the other mods and units

7)	Give TA:M to all your TA playing friends. The more popular it
	becomes the more people will make their mods TA:M compatible,
	and the easier it will be for you to try them out!

8)	Send suggestions, praise, spare Commander chasis, etc. to me at
	immerx@yahoo.com, but first check out Quantum Design
	(www.annihilated.com/quantum) to make sure you've got the
	latest version.

*WARNING* DON'T rename or remove any files from your TA or TA-Mutation
folders without first disabling any TC, AI, and mutators you're using
and closing TA:M. Doing so can get TA:M stuck in a loop where it'll
refuse to let you change anything until you put the files back where it
expects them.

*ALSO* DON'T use any other TA management utilities once installing TA:M
(eg the Uberhack switcher). It will almost certainly confuse TA:M with
unpredicatable results.
